‘M:I-IV’ gets director, release date

The sequel to 2006’s ‘Mission: Impossible III’ has been given a December 16th 2011 release date. JJ Abrams will return in a producer capacity, alongside star Tom Cruise, whilst the movie will be helmed by ‘The Incredibles’-director Brad Bird.

Amongst Bird’s other directorial credits are ‘The Iron Giant’ and ‘Ratatouille’, although this will be his first live action feature.

Cruise told Empire Magazine: "Brad is enormously talented and [producer J.J. Abrams] and I are having a blast, cranking away. We're having a lot of fun. I like working with people I just love hanging out with. You get to hang out and laugh and talk stories and movies and technology: what are we going to do?"

Worldwide the series has earned more than $1.4 billion at the box office. The first and second instalments were directed by Brian De Palma and John Woo, respectively.

Cruise can next be seen alongside Cameron Diaz in ‘Knight and Day’, in theatres June 25th. If you haven’t seen the latest ‘Knight and Day’ trailer, take a look below:
